Enter and View: Wythenshawe Hospital

We recently carried out an Enter and View at Wythenshawe Hospital to assess wheelchair access for people in the hospital.

Similarly to the previous Enter and View visits to hospitals in Manchester, we found that access to a wheelchair inside and outside the hospital was difficult. Locating a wheelchair was difficult for abled bodied and non-sensory impaired people. This would be very difficult for somebody with a disability. This is non-compliant with the Public Sector Equality Duty.

Access to a wheelchair on request is possible however this is a slow process and can lead to a person waiting up to 20 minutes for access.

However, information regarding the use of wheelchairs and their function was available via information posters around the hospital.

We have recommended that Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust should aim for full compliance with the Public Sectors Equality Duty.

Please also find a response from the service provider at the end of the report.
