The Patient Access Portal has been designed in partnership with the NHS to give people access to GP services online, via the website or through a mobile app. Once registered on the portal, patients will be able to manage GP appointments, repeat prescriptions, communicate easily with their practice and access their medical records.

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, Healthwatch Manchester has been contacted by a number of people from across the city who have expressed concern about access to GP services during the lockdown.

Neil Walbran, Chief Officer of Healthwatch Manchester, says: “Many of the residents who have spoken with us over the last few months have been worried about access to vital healthcare services, such as GP practices.

“Despite the Patient Access Portal having been in use for some time, it is clear that more needs to be done to increase awareness of the tool and how it can help improve access to local GP practices without leaving your home.

“At Healthwatch Manchester we have produced a short video which will explain what the Patient Access Portal is and how to easily register. We are hoping that the video will be widely shared to ensure that the message gets out to as many people as possible.

“It is vitally important that people have access to healthcare services during difficult circumstances like those which we are currently facing.”
